The winners of our inaugural NAFC awards will be announced shortly but before the announcement we wanted to give you some insight into our awards process

Throughout each year, all members of the NAFC can nominate films or aspects of them to 20 categories which our 14 members vote on during the first weeks of January using a ranked ballot system

In the case of a tie, ballots from our four incoming members are used. If there is still a tie, we announce the category as such.

Each category will have a winner, referred to as Best, and a runner up, referred to as Outstanding.

Additionally, our documentary category is determined by having each member rank ten documentaries of which we recognize five. We also have three special awards determined by our Board: Lifetime Achievement, Special Achievement, and Humanitarian Action Through the Film Medium.
