珊瑚化石,俗称石柱子、珊瑚玉。常见的珊瑚化石有单体和复体两大类型。单体珊瑚的骸体,从几毫米到几十厘米,通常有体壁围绕,表面饰有粗细不等的皱纹,但在进化程度比较高级的珊瑚中,体壁退化。复体珊瑚呈致密的块状体,或细弱的丛枝状,由许多细小的珊瑚个体组成,有的从母体的轴部或侧方分芽而出,有的通过珊瑚体壁上的孔或管,或各珊瑚单体之间的共骨组织或间隙管相互贯联。珊瑚骸体的骨架由无数细微的方解石质或文石质的羽针、羽簇或羽榍组成。纵列骨骼单元主要包括刺状或脊状的隔壁脊或隔壁刺和板状的隔壁,后者长短相间,呈两侧对称或辐射对称排列。横贯珊瑚骨腔分布的板状体称床板或横板,是横列骨骼单元的主要组成部分。在有些珊瑚体的边缘还出现小型鱼鳞状或泡沫状骨片,称鳞板或泡沫板。上述纵列和横列骨骼单元在不同地史时期的各类珊瑚中,分别以不同的方式配列组合,或派生出其他组织结构,出现形形色色的骸体形态。
Coral fossils, commonly known as shizhuzi and coral jade. Common coral fossils are divided into two types: single and complex. The skeleton of single corals, ranging from a few millimeters to several tens of centimeters, is usually surrounded by body walls and is decorated with wrinkles of different thicknesses. However, in corals with higher evolutionary degrees, the body walls degenerate. Complex corals are dense massive bodies, or thin clumps, composed of many tiny coral individuals, some sprouting from the axial or lateral parts of the mother body, some penetrating through holes or tubes in the coral body wall, or common bone tissues or interstitial tubes between coral monomers. The skeleton of coral skeleton consists of numerous fine calcite or aragonite feather needles, feather clusters or feather plumes. The longitudinal skeletal units mainly include spiny or ridged rib or rib spines and plate-shaped rib, the latter are alternate in length and arranged symmetrically on both sides or symmetrically in radiation. Plate-like bodies distributed across coral bone cavities are called bedplates or transverse plates, which are the main components of transverse skeletal units. On the edge of some corals, there are also small scale-like or foam-like bony plates, called scale plates or foam plates. The above-mentioned longitudinal and transverse skeletal units are arranged and combined in different ways in different types of corals in different geological history periods, or other tissue structures are derived, resulting in various skeletal body shapes.
