Rules for Hiking the Washington Mountain Crest Trail
*Hydrate well before you begin.
*Loud music is not allowed.
*Littering is not allowed.
*Load your pack with plenty of snacks and water.
*The trail is strictly closed from sunset until sunrise.
*Thoroughly map out your trek before you leave, and do not wander from it. When you reach the point you plan on turning around at, do so.
*Carefully make note of the trail markers you pass in preparation for your return trip. The foliage and environment around the trail often look different when passed by a second time, and make unreliable waypoints.
*Tell any other hikers you meet who claim to be thirsty that you are out of water.
*Do not interact with wildlife. This includes ignoring anything from the woods that sounds like an animal distress call.
*Pictures of any rock formations found beyond the 3rd mile marker are strictly prohibited.
*If you see a house marked “Rest Stop”, do not stop. There are no affiliated Rest Stops on the trail.
*Do not ask anyone dressed as a Ranger for directions.
*Do not hike the trail more than three times in six months.
Thank you, and enjoy your time on our trail!
