Personal View: I Stick To Pixar Style
As a strong adherent of Pixar-style cars, I have to say sorry to all of you who love a different style from Pixar’s. Honestly speaking, I’m just feeling something that is a little bit weird when I see a lot of artists depicting car characters whose headlights are replaced with eyes instead of the windshield, which is a kind of style that I am not really a fan of.
First of all, for the utility of the headlights, I think headlights are considered essential for a car to drive on the roads where enough sunlight is not available, which is the reason why I find it a little bit weird to look at those car characters without a working headlight for illumination. On top of that, it does have a negative effect on the aesthetics of the car characters, which is proven by Pixar after their first try to draw cars with eyes placed on the headlights. According to a principle of aesthetics, a stronger pleasurable contemplation of the beauty of the characters with a shorter pupillary distance (distance between the center of the pupils) can be perceived among viewers compared to those who possess a longer pupillary distance. By placing the eyes on the headlights of the car, a long distance between the eyes is engendered, as a consequence of which the aesthetics of the character would plummet.
In light of this, Pixar didn’t proceed with their work on car characters with eyes placed on the headlights, and it is the reason why I don’t find the characters attractive to me. Nevertheless, this world is a hodgepodge of people with all kinds of different preferences, and we should have respect for those who have different values and beliefs. The purpose of writing this journal is that I want to make it clear to all my friends about certain types of artworks that are not very appealing to me. So there’s no offense to those who love this style, and I hope that we can still get along very well despite different preferences we have!
