Sometimes it's very difficult to make a decision amid several uncertain factors. Such a case was my yesterday 400 mile driving from Qingdao to the capital under the hanging over of the severe tropical storm Ampil.
As I was drivinging on the street in the early morning, from Baidu navigation came a frustrating message -- please turn around, the freeway entrance closed. It was raining at that moment, a rain of moderate intensity, and I was well aware of the risk, but I wanted to be back home following my schedule.
In short, I entered the freeway successfully and triumphantly, and indeed it was closed to all those seven seat cars and other larger vehicles. This means that I've obtained the right to access it even in the case of some entrances ahead (to be) closed due to local heavy rains or strong storms.
A bigger uncertainty came from the accuracy of rainstorm forecasting, particularly on a hourly scale. I hit the road at 7am, three hours ahead of the 'normal' schedule to avoid my arrival at Dongying around the local rainstorm starting time. If the real rainstorm had struck that region earlier than the forecast, I would have been trapped.
Fortunately, the storm striking time was three hours later (an updated forecast), so I felt very happy and relaxed at the Shouguang freeway service area. From there on, the wet road condition was indeed gradually improved, and all the car passengers congratulated ourselves on our lucky trip plus the risky and lucky decision.
