Yifan stared at the box outside his door for a good five minutes before picking it up and carrying it gingerly into the living room where he set it down on the coffee table. He sat down hesitantly. A little tag taped to the top caught his attention.
    NAME: MINI LU HAN
    AGE: 3 AND A HALF
    PRODUCT #: 19900420
    WARNING—
A tiny yawn sounded from the box in front of him and Yifan started. Sliding down to the floor, he carefully peeled the tape and opened the flaps. Inside was padded and tucked under a blanket fast asleep, with rosy cheeks and golden hair, was a tiny boy. Yifan couldn’t resist reaching in and ever so gently brushing the hair from the tiny face. He let out a breathy laugh but froze when the little boy squirmed under the hot air. He rubbed his little finger over the golden hair and the little creature settled back to sleep, but not before a tiny hand wrapped tiny fingers over the tip of Yifan’s larger digit. His heart did a back flip.
    1) DO NOT MAKE LOUD NOISES WHEN HE’S SLEEPING
Yifan got up and moved into the kitchen as quietly as he could. Though quietly wasn’t quiet enough when he pulled a pan from the cupboard, sending another flying to the floor with a crash. He was half way through making scrambled eggs when he heard the desperate crying floating in from the living room. Yifan rushed back and straight to the box, where the little boy was crying and wailing, his little body shaking under the blanket with the force of his cries. Yifan carefully scooped the little thing up, blanket and all and glanced quickly at the name on the tag again. Lu Han.“Lu Han,” he cooed in what he hoped was a gentle tone. No response. Lu Han continued to cry, his eyes squeezed shut tightly. “Lu Han,” he tried again, using his thumb to gently wipe the tears off the tiny face, lifting his hands closer to his own.The cries quieted to a inaudible whimper and Lu Han opened his eyes. The tears still ran but he reached his arms up, looking at Yifan with imploring eyes and Yifan found himself lowering his face closer, until Lu Han could sit up and hug his cheek, one hand holding his ear to keep him close. Yifan laughed softly (because Yifan does not giggle nope) and turned, nuzzling his own nose to Lu Han’s face. Finally a happy, high pitched giggle erupted from the tiny boy in his hands and he sighed in relief.
    2) YOU ABSOLUTELY CANNOT PICK ON HIM
Yifan watched in silent awe as Lu Han happily chewed through his tiny portion of scrambled eggs. He would have to go buy a tiny set of… well, tiny versions ofeverything for Lu Han. The tiny measuring spoon he’d managed to find only worked so well. Lu Han wasn’t much bigger than his phone after all. How was he going to find a toothbrush small enough? Lu Han let out a content noise as he finished eating, and Yifan smiled brightly.Lu Han tap-tap-tapped across the table to where Yifan sat with his half finished breakfast. He looked confusedly between the plate and Yifan’s face before staring intently as if he knew he’d forgotten something. Yifan realised first. “Yifan,” he said, pointing to himself. Lu Han’s little eyes widened impossibly large and he nodded so quickly Yifan thought he’d go dizzy.“Yifan not… eat?” Lu Han asked, pointing at Yifan’s fork that had been hanging halfway from his plate for a couple of minutes. He smiled and placed the fork in his mouth. Lu Han’s face broke into a smile to match his own .Yifan laughed as he placed his fork down, rubbing Lu Han’s head gently. “How on earth are you so cute?” he whispered, poking Lu Han gently on the cheek. They turned a little pinker. Yifan laughed again and tickled under the little boys’ chin. But Lu Han was unresponsive. He didn’t giggle and he didn’t struggle away. Instead he pouted up at Yifan before pulling the hood of his blue pyjamas over his head, turning his back to the man.Yifan blinked, trying to turning Lu Han back to face him but the little boy was having none of it. He panicked slightly and got up to pull a box of strawberries from the fridge, placing them in front of the sulking Lu Han.“I’m sorry,” he said, rubbing Lu Han’s head gently. “I’m sorry. I won’t tease you again.”“I don’t like it,” Lu Han whispered, staring at the strawberries Yifan cut up into tiny pieces in front of him.“I know, I’m sorry,” Yifan said again, when Lu Han finally turned around and tentatively took a piece of fruit from Yifan’s palm. He pushed the hood back down and made Lu Han look at him. “I won’t do it again. I promise.”
    3) GET HIM A CUTE PAIR OF SLIPPERS
Yifan picked Lu Han up and took him back to the box that still sat on his coffee table. Lu Han clung to his hand, not wanting to be put back in, but Yifan kept him close and pulled out the small bag inside that was full of clothes. He chose a stripy jumper and some comfy looking jeans and helped Lu Han change into them. Lu Han turned a little pink when Yifan took off his pyjamas. It was only after when Yifan returned to clear up the table, once he’d told Lu Han to not crawl into any cracks and stay in sight (as sternly as he could but those little eyes were so trusting), that he noticed the tiny footprints all over.He laughed when he came back into the living room and saw the same little prints leading to the bookcase that Lu Han was staring up at with wide eyes. He rummage in the bag again and found a tiny pair of panda slippers that he had Lu Han step into. When he straightened again, Lu Han was looking up at him.“Up! Up!” he said, arms stretching up and Yifan obliged.
    4) DON’T LEAVE HIM ALONE IN THE HOUSE AT NIGHT
When Lu Han had tired himself playing games with Yifan (which he was not good at, he hid like Chopper after all!), Yifan left him curled up on his bed, surrounded by plushies to make him not feel so lost on the huge open space. He went into town to find Lu Han everything he needed, extra clothes (he couldn’t resist, they would look adorable on the tiny boy), cutlery, wash stuff and food fit for a 3 year old. When he returned it was already dark. He turned on all the lights as he went, not wanting to accidently step on Lu Han if he had woken up and managed to find a way off the bed.“Lu Han,” he called gently when he pushed the door to his room open. He walked in, turning the light on its dimmest setting in case Lu Han was still asleep. But the little boy wasn’t on the bed. His blanket was missing too. Frowning, Yifan came closer until he spied Lu Han’s yellow blanket poking out from between the alpaca and dragon toys. He sat gently on the bed, lying down so his head was at Lu Han’s level and called again.“Lu Han?” He recoiled slightly when Lu Han came running out from amongst the plushies, pillow hugged tightly in his arms and smacked into Yifan’s face. Yifan rubbed his nose but scooped Lu Han up when he noticed the tears and his shaking form.“What’s wrong, little man?” he asked, rolling over, keeping Lu Han safe in his hands.“There was scary monsters!” Lu Han told him and Yifan tried so hard not to smile.“Oh I’m sorry, but it’s okay now. I made all the monsters go away,” he said, rubbing Lu Han’s head, trying to lull him into sleep again.“You did?” Lu Han said, rubbing his eyes on his sleeves.“Yeah. They won’t come back as long as I’m here.”“Really?”“Of course. I’ll protect you. No matter.”
The next day, when Lu Han was happily using his new toothbrush, Yifan picked up the tag that had been attached to the box. He laughed out loud when he read it fully.“Stupid. I should have read it first,” he sighed as Lu Han tap-tap-tapped his way out of the bathroom. He looked at the last page again before throwing the tag back in the box to bin later. “Lulu~”
