APPIANO GENTILE - After a day off, Hernan Crespo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic were back to training at Angelo Moratti Sports Centre today. The two strikers did a morning session of strength-building in the gym followed by an afternoon aerobic workout.

Juve demand Serie A berth Wednesday 16 August, 2006 
Juventus President Giovanni Cobolli Gigli warned their legal challenge would continue unless the club’s top flight status is restored.

“We will go into the CONI Conciliation with great respect for the FIGC, but I am convinced that to be in Serie A with a points penalty is the correct destiny for Juventus.”


The Bianconeri were demoted to Serie B and ordered to start the 2006-07 campaign with a 30-point handicap, later reduced to 17 on appeal, as a result of the Calciopoli scandal.


Juve will now enter an arbitration meeting and it’s reported the Federation will negotiate a large cut in their penalty to avoid the legal challenge rumbling on to the TAR Lazio tribunal.


“I don’t even want to consider the idea we might not be playing in Serie A,” continued Cobolli Gigli. “However, if this deplorable situation plays out, then we’ll be forced to earn promotion. Our transfer market is not over yet. We’ll bring in a new central defender, but I won’t name him yet.”


Juventus seem confident of a large discount on their penalty, having removed guilty parties Luciano Moggi and Antonio Giraudo from the club, but the Federation insists there will be no whitewash.


“The FIGC does not want to and indeed cannot change the sanctions agreed by the Federal Court,” noted Commissioner Guido Rossi. “Anyone who thinks this is an end of season sale is sorely mistaken.”


Meanwhile, Juventus played out a 0-0 draw with fellow Serie B side Piacenza this evening. The World Cup winners and other internationals were out of bounds, so Didier Deschamps fielded a very young squad.


They impressed nonetheless and struck the woodwork with a long-range effort from Matteo Paro.


“We will try to get as many points as we can to achieve our objectives, which hopefully will be defined on Friday evening,” noted the Coach.


“We all hope it’ll be in Serie A, but we can only wait for the final decision. In any case, our attitude and hard work will not change, as we are preparing to be ready when the campaign kicks off.”

Pizarro ready for Roma move Wednesday 16 August, 2006 
Thursday may be David Pizarro’s last day at Inter, as his agent is scheduled to meet Roma officials to finalise his transfer.

The midfielder had been linked to the Giallorossi club in the past few weeks and expressed his availability to move, especially after Inter signed Patrick Vieira from demoted Juventus.


The player’s agent Fernando Hidalgo is returning to Italy and will meet Nerazzurri officials Marco Branca and Gabriele Oriali, as well as Roma sporting director Daniele Pradé, on Thursday to discuss the final details.


“Branca and Oriali called, the negotiation is underway and I think we will agree on a co-ownership,” said Hidalgo to network Radio Radio.


“There will be no other players involved in the deal. Inter wanted Amantino Mancini, but Roma consider him untransferable,” added Pizarro’s agent, denying the possibility of a swap deal.


“Pizarro was glad to stay at Inter, but is also keen on moving to Rome. We will discuss everything on Thursday and I think we will be able to close the deal,” concluded Hidalgo.


Inter will probably net in the region of around £4m, but no official numbers have been released yet.


The 27-year-old Chilean was unhappy with the limited amount of playing time he was handed last season with the Nerazzurri outfit.


Giallorossi Coach Luciano Spalletti specifically requested to have Pizarro in his side following their time together at Udinese in 2004-05.


Roma will now probably abandon the idea of signing Alou Diarra of Lens, despite the French international having expressed his availability for a capital switch in recent weeks.

Sobis next on Milan list Wednesday 16 August, 2006 
Milan are still searching for a striker and have picked out Rafael Augusto Sobis of Internacional Porto Alegre as a possible target.

The Rossoneri have yet to replace Andriy Shevchenko upfront, after his departure to Chelsea, with Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Didier Drogba and Vincenzo Iaquinta on the Via Turati club’s shortlist.

Sobis’ name has now been added to that piece of paper after negotiations to bring Ronaldo back to Italy from Real Madrid came to an abrupt halt.

The 21-year-old moved to Porto Alegre after one year with Corinthians and has won seven caps with the Under-21 Brazilian national side.

Sobis impressed with his performance in the first leg of the Copa Libertadores Final last Wednesday, when he netted two second half goals allowing Internacional to defeat Sao Paulo 2-1.

Sobis is not a totally new name for Italian football fans after he was paired with an Inter transfer in November 2005.

Massimo Moratti’s club expressed an interest in the player, whom they were apparently willing to offer £7m for, but no compromise could be reached with his Brazilian club.
